  2. What is it? • Protozoan • Caused by amoeba Entamoebahistolytica • Amoeba’s burrow into body and infect the bloodstream • first documented: St. Petersburg, Russia, 1855 • Diagnoses- traveling in tropical areas and bloody diarrhea

  3. Symptoms • Bloody diarrhea • Vomiting • Fever • Headache • Confusion • Seizures • Stiff neck

  4. Transition • Amoeba reproduce through cysts • Transported through contaminated water and food • Happens when water is forced up nose • Cant spread it through contact

  6. Current research • Early stages • the US treatment of arthritis shows the greatest potential . • tested on- hamsters, mice and lab grown amoeba • human testing is needed
