JMS Registration Information • Registration presentation was Nov. 19thin their 8th period classes • Course selection books will be available during that time; course selection books also available online • Completed registration forms are due to 4th period teachers on or before December 5th. • Online registration during 4th period Dec. 9th-13th in the LMC • Schedules mailed in late July/early August • Students must have Infinite Campus login and password to register for classes

  3. Total Credits Needed = 24 MATH 3 Credits Needed (6 Semesters or 3 blocked periods) ENGLISH 4 Credits Needed (8 Semesters) SCIENCE 3 Credits Needed (6 Semesters) SOCIAL STUDIES 3.5 Cr. Needed (7 Semesters) TECHNOLOGY .5 Credits Needed (1 Semester) HEALTH .5 Credits Needed (1 Semester) CPR P.E. 1 Credit Needed (8 Semesters) (.125 per semester) JHS Graduation Requirements

Advancing in Grade Level • Sophomore status: need 6 or more successfully completed credits* • Failing a 9th-12th grade course results in 0 credit for that course • Junior status: need 12.0 successfully completed credits* • Senior status/privileges/graduation plan: need 18.0 credits* • Recommended course load for 9th/10th grade is 6-7 courses per semester plus P.E. (min. of 6) *These are minimum to stay on track

English Requirements • 4 credits required for graduation • All 10th grade students take Integrated Language Arts both semesters • If one or both semesters of Freshman English are failed, students will have to make up that credit with Summer School, Night School or a Frameworks course as a Junior/Senior.

  6. 3 credits required for graduation 9th grade course completion determines placement in 10th grade course – refer to the course request registration form and the course selection handbook for more info Pay attention to course prerequisites See a teacher or counselor for guidance if you are unsure which course to sign up for Math Requirements

  7. 3 credits required for graduation 9th grade Physical Science students should sign up for Biology 9th grade Biology students should sign up for General Chemistry or Physics Pay attention to the course prerequisites If one or both semesters of Physical Science is failed, students may recover this credit through Night School or Summer School Science Requirements

  8. 9th Grade Topics of History 10th Grade World Studies OR AP World History 11th Grade US History OR AP US History 12th Grade American Government Social Studies Requirements • 3.5 credits required for graduation

Courses Health & CPR training (Required in 10th grade) 9th Grade • 9th Grade Functional Fitness P.E. 10th – 12th Grade (Select one for each sem.) • Individual/Personal Fitness (Track 1) • Individual/Dual Recreation (Track 2) • Team Games/Activities & Sports (Track 3) • Strength & Conditioning for Athletic Power (Track 4) • Cross Training for Lifelong Fitness (Track 5) • P.E.O.P.E.L (Track 7)-must apply for instructor approval 11th and 12th Grade • Outdoor Pursuits (Track 6)* • Kinesiology (must have passed Track 4)* *Can only take these ONCE

Vocal Music 10-12 Mixed Chorus Concert Choir* Synergy* Innovation* Music Theory (11th-12th only) *Selected by audition Instrumental Music 10th-12th High School Band Music Courses • Students interested in vocal music should sign up for Mixed Chorus. Tryouts for the other choirs will take place next year and schedule adjustments will be made accordingly.

  11. Importance of Academic Success • With increased graduation requirements, academic success becomes even more critical. Failing courses not only creates a credit deficiency but also limits options for moving to higher levels of math, science, foreign language, etc. • It is IMPERATIVE that we stress this to our students at home and at school.

  12. Eligibility for College Credit • Score at or above the proficiency level on the Iowa tests (Iowa Assessments) • Meet one of the district’s equivalent alternative measures of proficiency • MAP • I-ELDA (ELL students) • ACT • COMPASS • ALEKS Math Test
