  1. Alternative Policies Kylie White, Amanda Clifford, and Kelly Murphy.

  2. Longer Passing Time • After class, some students do not have enough time to make it from their last class, to their locker, and then to the next class without being late. If we had a longer passing time in between classes, then it would take of quite a bit of the stress for students. It would also give them some time to socialize with their friends. We could do this by taking a few minutes off every class, or extending our school day by 5 or 10 minutes.

  3. Advantages & Disadvantages. • Some advantages of a longer passing time would be that students would have more time to go to their lockers to get their books and whatever they needed for their next class with out being late. Also, they would have more time to socialize with their piers and maybe go and talk to their teachers about something they missed or need to make up. • Some disadvantages are that our class periods might be shortened which will reduce our teachers time to improve our learning skills. Another disadvantage is that if we do not end up shortening our class periods, our day in school would be extended by another 10 or 20 minutes.

  4. 20 minute break • In between fourth and fifth period, known as long period, many students would like to have a break to get a snack, check over homework, or even chat with friends. If we can do this, then we could have people in a study hall set-up or people in the hallways like we have in the morning before the first bell. This would be set up like our advisory days, where each class takes off about 3 or 4 minutes. Our advisory days would still be the same, we just would not have our break that day.

  5. Advantages & Disadvantages. • There are many advantages to having a break in between 4th and 5th period. Students will have an opportunity to get a snack before sitting in a class for 75 minutes, or have time to de-stress for a little and talk and socialize with friends. It would also give students who do not have a study hall a chance to make up a missing test or finish up homework from the previous night. • Some disadvantages are that teachers would have to be watching the hallways all the time and it is quite possible fights might occur between students.

  6. Extended Lunches • Some students like to socialize at lunch and it gives them a break from class. If we can extend our lunch period, students would be able to have a longer time to eat, socialize, and maybe even prepare / study for a test.

  7. Advantages & Disadvantages. • An advantage of an extended lunch period would give students more time to talk with friends and eat a healthy lunch and be more focused when they go back to the class to learn. A disadvantage would be that it would be cutting out class time because we would be spending extra time in the cafeteria.

  8. Break During Long Period. • Some students believe it is hard to sit in a classroom for 75 minutes with out a break. If we have a 10 or 15 minute break during long period, students would be able to get back to focusing better on their work and pay more attention to their teacher.

  9. Advantages & Disadvantages. • A break during long period which would last 10-15 minutes would be great for all students. It would give them a time to relax during the 75 minute period and also finish up class work or homework for that night if it is already assigned. A downfall of this however is that it may be harder for some students to become back on task and it would also be cutting out of teachers class time.
