  8. Strategies and Practice: Multiple Choice • 80 Multiple Choice questions in 55 mins. • Answer every question; skip it and come back to it if unsure; check every so often to make sure you are bubbling in the right number • If time left over, review your answers; only change it if you read the question wrong; trust your 1st choice otherwise

  9. AP MC Grading Scale • Raw Score AP Score(# of questions right) • 60-80 5 • 50-59 4 • 40-49 3 • 30-39 2 • 29 and below 1

  10. Strategies and Practice: Free Response • 1 DBQ (document based question) + 2 FRQs (free response questions) • 15 minutes: mandatory reading/planning/prewriting • Hand out writing booklets • Big chunk of time (115 mins.):45 mins. to write DBQ, 5 mins. planning, 30 mins. write FRQ #1(choose 1 of 2 = B4 Civil War); 5 mins. planning, 30 mins. write FRQ #2 (choose 1 of 2 = After Civil War)

  11. DBQ Helpful Tips • Hook, background information, THESIS (take a stance) • Minimum = use one more than ½ the documents (the more, the merrier) • Group the documents; no laundry list • MUST HAVE OUTSIDE INFORMATION!(info. not given to you in the documents, something you add from your brain)

  12. DBQs Continued… • Show analysis, not just description • Paragraphs should be at least 3-5 sentences in length (not an entire page) • Use the documents and cite them • Ex: “According to Cotton Mather (Doc. A), it is evident that…” • Try to evaluate the usefulness of the document (strengths/weaknesses/bias)

  13. DBQs continued… • Answer the question provided (not the one you want to answer) • Focus in on the dates provided in the question (they chose those particular dates for a reason) • Adding info. from outside of the time period isn’t helpful unless it shows causation or impact

  14. Exit Activity • With a shoulder partner, turn and talk about one strategy you will utilize on your AP exam and why.
