  1. Dr. X. Centric Computes Like an Egyptian A Webquest Designed to Explore the Egyptian Numeration System By Cheryl J. McAllister July 2001

  2. You get a letter from Dr. X. Dear Friend, I am visiting my niece in Egypt. She is an archeologist who studies the people and life of the ancient Egyptians. She has been teaching me how the people who built the pyramids did mathematics.

  3. When I return home, I’d like to share what I’ve learned about Egyptian mathematics. Until I get there, I’d like for you to visit the internet sites I have enclosed and do some research on your own. Try to learn the following: • How did the Egyptians represent large numbers? • How did the Egyptians represent fractions? • Did the Egyptians have a symbol for zero? • What kind of mathematics did the Egyptians do? • Can you write your name and address in Egyptian Hieroglyphics?

  4. Here are internet sites to help you learn about ancient Egyptians and their mathematics. • Writing and numbers http://www.greatscott.com/hiero/ • Egyptian number translators http://www.psinvention.com/zoetic/tr_egypt.htm

  5. Have fun learning about Egyptian Mathematics.Your Friend,Dr. X.
