  7. Gold Card Initiative Overview On August 5, 2011, President Obama announced a comprehensive plan to lower veteran unemployment and ensure service members leave the military “career-ready” On November 7, 2011 the President announced further details of this plan

  8. Gold Card Initiative Overview • That announcement includes the availability of a “Gold Card” for Post 9/11 Era Veterans • The Gold Card Initiative is a joint effort between ETA and VETS

  9. Gold Card Initiative Overview What is the Gold Card? An online certificate downloaded and printed by Post 9/11 Era Veterans Gold Cards are also available through Transition Assistant Program (TAP) Employment Workshops A source of basic information and for presentation at One-Stop Career Centers Provides participants with access to enhanced core and intensive services

  10. Gold Card Initiative Overview Gold Card Services Combines skill assessment, career coaching, job search assistance and follow-up Covers a 6 month period to ‘jump start’ the participant’s reconnection to the civilian labor force Services are both in-person and online

  11. Gold Card Initiative In-person Services In-person Services Comprehensive Assessment (Veterans and One-Stop staff are encouraged to fully access on-line assessment tools) Development of an Individual Development Plan Monthly contact from an assigned case manager for 6 months

Gold Card InitiativeIntake and Eligibility The Gold Card does NOT change any intake procedures under Veterans’ Priority of Service The Gold Card does NOT change any eligibility criteria for DVOP/LVER or WIA services For Post 9/11 Era Veterans accessing One-Stops, the Gold Card simply adds the eligibility for the enhanced set of in-person services In conjunction with the existing procedures for determining eligibility for DVOP/LVER or WIA services, Post 9/11 Era status will be determined Separate verification of Post 9/11 Era status is NOT required

Gold Card InitiativeRoles and Responsibilities VETS has committed to supporting this Initiative by increasing the delivery of intensive services by DVOP specialists and LVER staff ETA has committed to supporting this Initiative by increasing the delivery of intensive services by WIA staff DVOP, LVER or other staff will provide the client with appropriate services, such as resume development, referral to training, and job referral State and local officials are encourage to take the necessary initiatives to handle increased workload

Gold Card InitiativeETA Online Services My Next Move for Veterans Self-service career exploration tool customized for veterans Enhanced look-up by branch of service and military code or title Translate military occupation to civilian careers for job search and resume-writing Find related training and job listings
