  6. The application process • Applications submitted September onwards • Course selectors consider application • UCAS informs you of outcome (offer/rejection) • You choose a ‘Firm’ (first) and ‘Insurance’ (second) choice of course

Common myths when applying • The sooner I get in my application, the more likely I will be to get an offer • If I apply to Oxbridge then Warwick will reject me • If I don’t put Warwick first on my UCAS application then they will reject me • Admissions Tutors don’t read the personal statements or references • All of the above statements are false!

Interviews • Interviews at Warwick • Statistics, Engineering, English, Theatre Studies and Film Studies all interview as standard • Interviews take place throughout the year • Academics will always be part of the Interview process • Tips for interviews • Have a mock interview with your teacher or careers advisor • Know your UCAS application inside out • Read up on your subject material • Relax and have a good night’s sleep the night before

Personal Statement Topics • Choice of course • Choice of subjects studied at A2 (or equivalent) level • Sources of inspiration or interest to you relevant to the subject • Career aspirations • Relevant work experience, extra-curricular activities or qualifications • Personal achievements, hobbies and interests • Gap year plans

Personal Statement Style • Humour rarely works – don’t risk it! • Don’t repeat information • Use paragraphs • Make sure the structure flows • Use the space effectively • Make it relevant to the course you are applying to • Link your interests to your personal qualities • CHECK YOUR SPELLING AND GRAMMAR!
