  4. Types of Classes Core – LA, math, science, etc. Elective - careers, art, drama, etc. Honors – more rigorous Advanced Placement (AP)‏ - college credit potential Career pathway

  5. Testing End of Course Test – EOCT – Math, Bio, Lit/Comp Georgia High School Graduation Test – GHSGT - ?? Advanced Placement exam – AP PSAT – 9th and 10th SAT ACT

  6. Credits What is a credit? How do you earn a credit? Formative Grades - 20% Summative Grades – 80% EOCT/Final Is homework important? - Can't stress this one enough. Do the HW! Study!! Some classes offer NO recovery or only one per semester! If lost, get help. Free tutoring. Talk to teacher.

  7. Which grade do you want? Grades: 89% 84% 90% 82% 78% Average = 85% (B)‏ Some depts. assign zeroes and some assign 50's.‏ Grades: 89% 84% 90% 82% 0% Average = 69% (F)‏

  8. Graduation Requirements 4 Math 4 English 4 Science 3 Social Studies 1 Health/Personal Fitness 3 Career Tech/Fine Arts/Foreign Language 4 Electives Total = 23 credits (minimum)‏ You have 5 credits to get in areas of interest. 28 possible credits in 4 years. 5+ credits = Sophomore status

  9. Waivers and Core classes Teachers recommend honors level Teachers recommend AP Human Geo. Teachers recommend Spanish II If you would like to change a core class, complete a waiver on the HS website by April 11th. It typically gets changed.

  10. Registering for Electives Portal opens Feb. 19 and closes Mar. 7 to register for electives. Make sure parents have a portal password or use yours from school. The school will put in your core classes. You just select your electives. Be SURE you select several alternates.

  11. Driver's Ed. Must pick as an elective. It is only a semester course, so you must select another semester course to go with it: World Geography, etc. $100.00 made out to NFHS is due to Sandra Sutton by Mar. 7th.

  14. Career Pathway Day High-schoolerswill speak with you on Wed. the 12thof Feb. 12 areas speaking for 8 minutes. Longer in the last session. Ask intelligent, helpful questions. This is your only chance to hear the info. from other students.

  15. Know your HS counselor The high school counselors are assigned students alphabetically.. The letters change every year, so find out whom you have for next year. It should be listed in the registration packet coming on the 19thof Feb.

  17. Last Important Thing!! You will have to provide Proof of Residency this spring!!! Parents must provide TWO proofs. One must be a mortgage stmt., lease agreement, or property tax bill AND One must be a utility bill with the name and home address – NOT a cell phone bill! Bring to Mrs. BAGWELL
