  1. TeleCampus Online Course Directory March 31, 2000 Telecampus.edu

  2. TeleCampus The first worldwide education portal for online courses

  3. Access Portal A WWW site that serves as a doorway or home base for searching out other sites

  4. TeleCampus • database of fully-online courses • entry/retrieval of courses worldwide • pre-school to postgraduate level • question and answer Web board • accreditation information • links to reference works, financial aid

  5. Mission Statement • The TeleCampus will be the world’s leading WWW site for students wishing to find information about online courses and programs.

  6. Opportunities • There is a need for a one-stop shopping WWW site where students can go to find courses online • In 1997, there were less than 2,000 courses • By the end of 2000, there will be more than 50,000 courses on line

  7. Business Concept • The business will be centred on a database of online courses available on the WWW • A critical mass of users accessing the database will be the principal asset

  8. Problems • Existing course databases are difficult to find • Once found, courses often not available online • Students must sift through the course database to see if the course they want is actually available at a distance.

  9. Other Course Databases • Electronic University Network • CASO’s College Directory • Globewide Network Academy • ICDL Database • The World Lecture Hall • ED|X Distance Learning Portal • Peterson’s Guide Site • None are comprehensive • Some are not limited to online courses

  10. Pricing • To attract and retain a critical mass of users: No fees are charged • When a critical mass is attained, financial benefits will accrue • Revenues will come principally from those who wish to reach this audience, not from the course deliverers

  11. Online course definition A course that can be taken on the Internet from anywhere with no residence requirements or need to attend sessions at a physical location.
