  1. The Skeletal System

  2. The Skeleton System Bones protect our vital organs. Inside the bone is jelly-like bone marrow. As you grow older some of your bones grow together.

  3. Skeletal System • 360 bones in body when born • 206 bones in body when you are about 10 or 20 • It gives us shape • Protects our organs such as brain, heart, and lungs

  4. Skeletal System • There are thin films of slippery fluid which is cartilage. • There are three main jobs of the skeletal system. The jobs are protecting the organs, it gives us our shape, and it allows us to move. http://www.bio.psu.edu/faculty/strauss/anatomy/skel/atlas.htm

  5. Skeletal System • It protects our vital organs. • Gives us the shape of our body. • When you’re a baby your skeleton had around 350 bones.

  6. Skeletal System • Your skull protects your brain • If you didn’t have any bones you’d be a big blob • Your backbone helps you stand up straight

  7. Skeletal system • Your bones manufacture blood cells. • Our bones are held by our muscles • The smallest bones are in our ears

  8. SKELETAL SYSTEM • When you look at your skull with the Lateral View you can divide your skull into 25 parts. • But when you look at your skull with the Interior View you can only divide it 17 parts.

  9. SKELETAL SYSTEM • You need joints which provide flexible connections between the bones • Bones are made of a mix of hard stuff that gives them strength • Hollowness makes bones strong and light • Humans and giraffes have the same number of bones in their necks http://emuseum.mnsu.edu/biology/humananatomy/skeletal/skull.html

  10. http://infozone.imcpl.org/kids_skel.htm Skeletal System • The skull is fused bones. • The shoulder allows you to move 360 degrees like a shower head. • Your blood brings food to your bones.

  11. Skeletal System • It gives you shape. • There is fluid in your body • If you didn’t have any bones you wouldn’t have a shape.

  12. SKELETAL SYSTEM • When you are born you have around 350 bones in your body . • When you are an adult you have around 206 bones.

  13. Skeletal System • Hinge joint of the knee • Pivot joint of the neck • Fixed joint of the skull • Ball-and-socket joint • You know that parts of your skeleton can move. • They can move because of the way bones are joined together

  14. Be sure to take great care of your muscular and skeletal systems!
