  2. Congratulations! You are invited to take a 3 day trip to Grand Valley State University (GVSU) and The Annis Water Resources Institute (AWRI) in Michigan!

  3. General Information • Dates: Friday, June 14 - Sunday, June 16, 2013 • Spots available for 25 students and 5 teacher chaperones! • There is no cost for this trip

  4. Pre-trip Program with DSE Introductory Activities: Watershed Modeling / Watershed Mapping

  5. Pre-trip Program with DSE Field Investigation: Tools Explanation, Water Quality Study

  6. Day 1: Friday, June 14 • Leave Indianapolis from IUPUI at 9 AM • Travel to Grand Valley State University • Eat lunch on the way, arrive at GVSU about 3 PM • Check in at dorm • Campus tour • Dinner in a campus cafeteria • Water-related activities with Brooke! • Free time in the dorm!

  7. Stay in a college dorm! • In addition to the normal dorm rooms that you’ll be sleeping in… • - Kitchen • - Lounge • - Recreation room (Great place to hang out during your free time at night!)

  8. Campus Tour Established in 1960, GVSU has a beautiful 1,275 acre campus near Allendale, Michigan

  9. Day 2: Saturday, June 15 • Breakfast at the dorm • Leave for the AWRI • Water research on Lake Michigan and Lake Muskegon • Lunch and tour at AWRI • Hoffmaster State Park – hike and swim in Lake Michigan! • Picnic dinner at Spring Lake – play frisbee, swim, and kayak! • Grand Haven – walk the pier, eat ice cream, and watch a lighted fountain show!

  10. Opened in 2001 • 2.5 acre site on Lake Muskegon • 24,500 ft2 building • Two research boats: • 65 ft. W.G. Jackson • 45 ft. D.J. Angus • Small boats: • Pontoon • Electroshocker • John boats Lake Muskegon Lake Michigan

  13. Tour of AWRI • AWRI conducts research on all of the lakes in Michigan • Computer mapping facilities • Chemical and biological evaluations

  14. Hoffmaster State Park • Hoffmaster State Park is between Muskegon and Grand Haven on Lake Michigan • Hike the dunes and enjoy a swim!

  15. Saturday Picnic Dinner Eat BBQ, play frisbee or football, relax, swim, and kayak!

  16. Saturday night in Grand Haven Walk on the pier, eat ice cream and watch the lighted fountain show to finish the day!

  17. Day 3: Sunday, June 16 • Breakfast in the dorm • Check out • Board coach bus for trip home • Eat lunch on the way • Stop at Dairy Queen and Fulton County Museum for a tour • Arrive Indianapolis about 5 PM

The D J Angus-Scientech Educational Foundation • Formed in 1967 by members of the Scientech Club • D J Angus , a local successful businessman, was a major contributor to the Foundation which bears his name • The Scientech Club has been active in Indianapolis since 1918, and is composed of people that have an interest in science • The Foundation is non-profit and all of the work is done by volunteers. Most of the volunteers are Scientech members • Funds for the Foundation come from contributions. Anyone interested in contributing may find information on the Scientech web site: www.scientechclub.org • The Foundation supports students of the sciences in many local universities. We support local science fairs and other related efforts
