  1. Grid Technology Transfer through The Matrix Project IP Proposal for the Call 5 Jarek Nabrzyski et al. naber@man.poznan.pl

  2. The Mission • Matrix is a grid application enabling and deployment project. • Matrix is driven by industry and commerce needs and is very much influenced and motivated by GAT and SAGA. • Matrix builds on top of the past grid projects such as GridLab, CrossGrid, GRIA, Progress, etc... • We will use available Grid tools in order to Grid enable both, commercial/industrial and scientific applications, • Matrix will develop additional application-level standard tools and will strongly participate in standardization bodies, such as GGF. • SAGA development is a primary target.

  3. Research and Development Focus • Matrix will work mainly in three areas: • grid application tools and toolkits, • new dynamic grid application scenarios, • integrated environments for grid applications and for virtual organization management. • Matrix will not develop much new middleware. It will just adjust and deploy the existing middleware in order to satisfy applications’ needs. Focus will be on applications though.

  4. Matrix Applications • Matrix will work with around 10 commercial application companies and service providers to Grid-enable their applications, • In each case a strong business model for the application is a must, • Matrix will also work with around 2-3 scientific applications that have great impact for a broad user community, • Each application will work with Matrix in well defined cycles (8-16 months each): • grid enabling, • pilot deployment and testing with advanced grid scenarios, • feedback • improvements • final deployment

  5. Project organization and summary • Worldwide alliances in both Americas, Europe, Asia-Pacific are being made to promote SAGA. • Vendors takeup SAGA and develop adaptors for their grid middleware/OS and queueing systems • Application vendors use SAGA for grid enabling their apps • We are looking for application communities/ companies/ service providers to join the project • Matrix will move Grid environments further into the trully collaborative environments for e-science, business and industry.
