What is SAI Platform? • A food companies platform launched in 2002 by Nestlé, Unilever, Danone. • Today with over 40 member companies & affiliates • Global – with representatives in Europe, NA but also Argentina, Australia and now China • Pre competitiveness is our strength • 5 crop specific working groups (beef, coffee, fruit, dairy, arable crops) and 1 on water& agriculture • Knowledge network of corporate and external experts

Who is IDH • Sustainable Trade Initiative • To improve the sustainability of global supply chains • Tackle economic, social and environmental ‘bottlenecks’ • Multi-stakeholder process • A catalyst and knowledge broker- supporting front runners to move faster and actors to overcome thresholds • Currently – programmes in tropical timber, soy, natural stone , cocoa, Tea, cotton, spices and of course......

Work undertaken to date • Commissioned CE Delft Study • Collaborated (GIZ) and engaged with other interested/relevant groups (Eschborn) • Contracted consultancy to investigate project opportunities, timescales and associated budgets • Developed proposal for consideration by IDH – now co-funding ‘partner’

Development Steering Committee: Governance and final ‘sector approval’ pre and post consultations Technical Working Group: Broad range of skills/experience, developing recommendations for progress. Balance / pragmatism – used! Opportunities also! Communications Group: Any interested stakeholder. Also Used for consultations

  10. Current work areas Global application – Makes considerations more complex - Boundaries and relevance Allocation – production systems vary greatly globally - Want to provide appropriate guidance Data: - Lack of data makes the calculation of other criteria (LUC/Sequestration) more complex

  11. How to engage? • Join the Technical Working Group – Mainly operate by conference calls and document reviews.
