  2. Graduation Status • Credits—170 credits minimum to be on target to graduate. • Must Pass Algebra I • If you are short credits or need to make up a “D”, APEX is available (see your counselor).

  4. 4 Yr. College / University Options CSU-California State University (Long Beach, Northridge, LA) UC-University of California (UCLA, UC San Diego, UC Irvine) Private Schools / Out of State (USC, Pepperdine, Loyola) NOTE: “D” grades are a problem!! Most universities will NOT accept D’s. See your counselor to discuss. TA’s, work experience class, and shortened days are not recommended if you plan to attend a 4 year university Transcripts – Naviance SAT/ACT Scores- Be sure to send directly to the colleges. Scores will no longer be on your transcript. Letters of Recommendation (allow 2 weeks)

  6. Personal Statement 2016-2017 Instructions and Prompts for Fall 2016-2017 • You will have 8 questions to choose from. You must respond to ONLY 4 of the 8 questions • Each response is limited to a maximum of 350 words • Which questions you chose is entirely up to you. Private Schools and Out-Of-State • Requirements vary (example: Arizona requires three years of lab science) • Follow the UC requirements • Highly selective private colleges and universities recommend a minimum of five (preferably six) academic courses each year. • Admissions testing and course requirements will vary by school. Check with the individual school. • Visit www.collegeboard.com, www.princetonreview.com for more college searches • Don’t forget to do a BRAG/PROFILE SHEET or a Naviance RESUME BUILDER at qhhs.org (Guidance)

Standardized Testing • SAT I and SAT II Subject Tests – www.collegeboard.org • Subject tests are available in Math (2C), Language, History, Science, and Literature • SAT (plus essay for UC’s/CSU’s??) -www.collegeboard.org • ACT (plus writing for ??)-www.act.org • Visit Test Preparation Sites to improve your scores! • Must bring picture ID and admission ticket • No walk-ins or standby test takers allowed • FEE WAIVERS ARE AVAILABLE! You must have your entire profile completed before we can issue the waiver You may only waive the SAT, SAT II, and ACT twice.

  10. UNIVERSITY TIMELINE • Applications due- November 30th – CSU and UC November to February – Private and Out of State • Notification from schools – March • Award Letters (scholarships, loans, grants) – April • Intent to attend – Must notify school by May 1st

  11. DIVISION I 16 Core-Course Rule 16 Core Courses: 4 years of English. 3 years of mathematics (Alg. I or higher). 2 years of natural/physical science (1 year of lab if offered by high school). 1 year of additional English, mathematics or natural/physical science. 2 years of social science. 4 years of additional courses (from any area above, foreign language or non-doctrinal religion/philosophy) Minimum 2.3 GPA in core classes DIVISION II 14 Core-Course Rule 14 Core Courses: 3 years of English. 2 years of mathematics (Alg. Community Colleges • Student must be 18 years or older OR have a high school diploma • Placement tests are given in math and English • The SAT and ACT are not required • There are over 100 community colleges in California Antelope Valley College a. Regular admission for Fall 2017 begins in November 2016. b. Priority admission- field trip is in April 2017. Listen for announcements to pick-up Guidelines in November c. Honors Program – 3.5 GPA Must be eligible for English 101 and Math 102 d. Transfer Alliance Program *For out of area community colleges, visit the schools’ individual websites*

Post Secondary Non-College Options • Trade/Technical Schools: DeVry, FIDM, Art and Music Institute, Culinary Arts, etc. (Financial Aid available, verify accreditation) • Certificate Programs: Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Repair, Auto Body, Interior Design, etc. • Military: Navy, Army, Marines, Coast Guard, and Air Force. ASVAB testing required (10/12/16) Sign up NOW! • Work: Going directly into the workforce. On the job learning

  15. Financial Aid & Scholarships • “Cash for College"Financial Aid Night at QHHS November 16th • Senior Packet (given in Sr. Presentations) Opt out form for FAFSA due by November 1st! Other documents have due dates on them! • File FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) October 1- March 2, 2017 • File regardless of income or type of school you are planning on attending, or if Undocumented (I.E. Trade/tech, 4yr or 2yr school, etc.) Undocumented-Dream Act is a different application • Check out the monthly scholarship bulletin at www.qhhs.org – Guidance College & Career Center. • Local scholarship applications are available now and due December 14th(see your senior folder for details) Senior awards night scholarships are given through this application only!
