What Percent of Presidents were younger than 50 at inauguration? 8/43 = 0.186 or 18.6% What age represents the first quartile? Find 25% mark (Basically we want the bar that holds the 10 th or 11 th observation so count in until you get there. So the 25 th percentile is between 50 and 55.

  1. What Percent of Presidents were younger than 50 at inauguration? 8/43 = 0.186 or 18.6% What age represents the first quartile? Find 25% mark (Basically we want the bar that holds the 10th or 11th observation so count in until you get there. So the 25th percentile is between 50 and 55. Example 1.6 page 19 How old are presidents at their inaugurations? Was Bill Clinton, at age 46 unusually young? Table 1.4 Gives the data, the ages of all US presidents took office. After Reviewing the histogram, describe the distribution.

  2. Describe the Distribution Slightly Skewed to the right, center at 28, spread is from 15-47 What is the Median of the distribution? 28! What is the 75th Percentile? 38 total observations (.75)= 28.5 Meaning that the 75th percentile should be located between the 28th and the 29th observation so count up to the 28th and 29th observation The 75th percentile is 35 Example 1.5 Watch that CaffeineConstruct a Stem Plot with the data.

  3. Lets compare these in a few sentences First give the shape, center and spread of each. Shape: As Bonds home runs are skewed to the right, Aaron’s Home runs are skewed to the left. Center: Bonds had a median home run count of about 35 whereas Aaron had a median home run count of about 38. Spread: Bonds home run counts spread from about 15 to about 70 whereas Aaron’s home run counts spread from about 10 to 45. NOW compare against each other in quartiles The bottom 25% of Aaron’s home run counts are about the same as the bottom 50% of Bonds home run counts.
