  2. Arête • The gods and the Greeks valued heroic and loyal qualities in individuals. This is shown in their striving for arête. Which is defined as having the following characteristics: • Athleticism *hospitality • Ingenuity *intuition • Justice *loyalty • Respect *teamwork

  3. Read the Odyssey and • *find examples of arête • Cite which book and copy the example down. • Ex: Odysseus showed ingenuity when he thought of the Trojan horse. The Iliad-book 8 “Odysseus was struck by that idea-a gift! They would offer the Trojans a mysterious gift.” • Share with group and class

  4. You will work in your groups: • Group A= books: 1, 2, 3 • Group B = books: 4, 5, 6 • Group C = books: 7,8,9 • Group D = books: 10,11,12 • Group E = books: 13,14,15 • Group F = books: 16,17,18 • Group G = books: 19,20,21 • Group F = books: 22,23,24
