  1. How the Parish Giving Scheme Can Work for You

  2. A GIVING SCHEME THAT BENEFITS THE PARISH Developed in 2008 by the Diocese of Gloucester. Winchester and Chichester joined PGS in 2012/2013. Exeter came on board and piloted the scheme in 7 parishes. This was very successful One parish recorded giving increased by one third. There is NO cost to the parish!

  3. A GIVING SCHEME THAT BENEFITS THE PARISH Dioceses of Liverpool, Chelmsford and Guildford have recently joined. Portsmouth and Truro joining later this year. Gloucester ‘gifted’ the Parish Giving Scheme to the National Church in 2014, and a joint venture charitable company has now been established.

  4. HOW IT WORKS:

  5. Main benefit: Giving to rise in line with inflation annually

  6. How the PGS can help: 2001 = £60 + £16.80 Gift Aid = £76.80 Gift increases in line with Retail Price Index (RPI) 2014 = £81.60 + £20.40 Gift Aid = £102.00 tax efficient gift a month Extra £302.40 a year

  7. I wish to support my parish in the future by agreeing to an annual inflationary increase on my gift. I understand that the new amount will be communicated to me by letter 30 days prior to the gift donation date. I have the right to opt out of this arrangement at any point in the future by communicating my wishes by letter, email or phone to the Parish Giving scheme. Please tick Yes

  8. When you signed up to donate through the Parish Giving Scheme (PGS) you indicated that you wished to support your parish more effectively by increasing your gift annually in line with inflation. The PGS uses Retail Price Index (RPI) for the last available January as its inflation rate. RPI in January 2014 was: 2.2%, therefore if you are still in agreement with this commitment from 1 December 2014your donation will increase from: £100 to: £102.20 If you are still happy with this there is no need for you to take any further action. Your parish will receive your increased gift as normal, 10 days after it’s received by us. If you would like to review the level of your giving or you wish to change this instruction, please contact us by email, telephone or post (see details below).

  9. Other Benefits: • Delivered locally, administered centrally • Large and small • Gross donation returned in 10 days • Improve cash flow • Effective Gift Aid administration • Direct Debit = greater flexibility/security • Anonymity option

  10. I wish to remain anonymous to my parish’s Planned Giving Representative

  11. Static giving is reduced • The level of giving is addressed • The profile of planned giving is increased • A professional and efficient service is provided

  12. Some figures • In 2014 over £6.6m was raised through the PGS (including £1.2m in Gift Aid) • The amount raised in 2014 was roughly double the amount raised in 2013, which in turn was also double that raised in 2012. • In March 2015 there were 7,800 donors from six dioceses. The amount sent to parishes in January was £700,000 (which included £130,000 in Gift Aid) • Monthly Gift Aid is claimed for over 90% of donors

  13. Exeter Diocese-The Picture In October 2015 • 86 parishes registered • 721 donors • 441 donors have opted in to inflationary increase in line with inflation • 651 gift aid donors • Monthly amount being returned to parishes-£52,252.93

  14. Great news for your community • With an improved cash flow situation, your parish will be able to plan for growth and develop its ministry.

  15. STEWARDSHIP – REGULAR CAMPAIGN The Parish Giving Scheme is more likely to work for you if the launch is well timed and forms part of a giving review. Creating your own thank you letter is important too.

  16. HELP IS ON HAND • Talk during a service • Six Steps of Christian Giving Workshop after service or on a Saturday morning. • Co-ordinated roll out of Parish Giving Scheme • Legacies workshop/talk in service • PCC Planning Meetings Support is also provided in producing publicity for these events.

  17. How Do we join? 1. Complete and return the parish registration form which can be obtained from your Mission Resources Adviser, Katie Roscorla.  2. When your form has been processed your parish will be given a unique code. This needs to be entered on the donor Gift Form. 3. Liaise with Katie to decide which information you would like to include in your bespoke donor packs. Each pack can include a gift card to be placed in the offertory plate. You can also work with Katie to plan your launch. A variety of stewardship support plans are available. Call Katie on 01392 294960 for more information.
