  4. 3 Ways to Write Numbers • Word Form –Uses Words • Thirty six thousand, five hundred thirteen • Number-word form • 122 thousand • Standard Form • Numbers only • 36,513 • You will be asked to use all 3 ways!

  5. Try it • Write the number in word form • 13,587,003 • Thirteen million, five hundred eighty seven thousand, three • Write in Number-Word form • 93,000,000,000 • 93 billion • Write in standard form • five million, one hundred eight thousand, nine • 5,108,009

  7. Why Rounding? • Working with large numbers can be inconvenient • Can give you a close answer when the exact number is not needed

  8. How do you round? • You will be asked to round to a certain place value • Round 113,868 to the hundreds place • Box number in place value • 113,868 • Look at number to the right of the box • 113,868

  9. 113,868 • If the number to the right of the box is 5 or higher, change the name • Less than 5 stays the same • All numbers to the right of the box turn to zeros • 113,900

  10. What about this? • Round to the given place • 1,698,017 – ten thousand • 1,700,000 • How did you get this number?
