  1. Class of 2017 Sprayberry High School Freshman Planning and Registration Guide

  2. The Freshman Experience • To help you succeed • To provide a successful transition from middle school to high school • Offer special activities just for Freshman • Pep rallies • Dances • Additional Academic Support

Semester Systems • Two semesters each year • Each semester is approximately 18 weeks • Students register for a MINIMUM of eight classes each year • All courses carry credit toward graduation Unlike middle school, the failure of any course results in no credit and a permanent record on your high school transcript.

SHS Daily Schedule Class Schedule Lunch Period (3rd Block) A 11:50 – 12:17 B 12:21 – 12:50 C 12:54 – 1:22 D 1:26 – 1:50 First Block 8:20 – 9:56 Second Block 10:02 – 11:44 Third Block 11:50 – 1:50 Fourth Block 1:56 – 3:30 Please refer to your Registration Planning Guide for further details regarding Sprayberry and the Freshman Experience.

Recommendations • Refer to your Student Course Request Profile • Middle School Teachers recommend you for either Honors or On-level classes • The courses printed are the courses your teachers recommended you for • If you would like to waive in to a higher level or lower level course than what was recommended, simply fill out the waiver on the bottom of the page.

  6. LANGUAGE ARTS Your teacher will recommend you for 1 of these 5 options: • Honors 9th Grade Literature • Honors 9th Grade Literature + AVID • 9thGrade Literature • 9thGrade Literature + Academic Opportunity • 9th Lit + Read 180

  7. MATHEMATICS Your teacher will recommend you for the correct math course: • Accelerated CCGPS Analytic Geometry B/Advanced Algebra • Accelerated CCGPS Coordinate Algebra/Analytic Geometry A • CCGPS Analytic Geometry Y • CCGPS Coordinate Algebra Y • CCGPS Coordinate Algebra + Support

  8. SCIENCE Your teacher will recommend you for one of the following courses: • Honors Biology • Biology • Earth Systems

  9. SOCIAL STUDIES Your teacher will recommend you for 1 of the following courses. • Pre AP + AP Human Geography • World Geography

  10. FOREIGN LANGUAGE Your teacher will recommend you for a foreign language. • Foreign language will be offered to Freshman that have successfully completed a foreign language in middle school. • If you were recommended for more than one language, fill out the waiver so you are scheduled in the one of your choice. • If you were not recommended for a foreign language, you may chose to postpone your language studies. Even if you wait until your tenth grade year you will have plenty of time to complete your foreign language requirement for college.

ELECTIVE REGISTRATION • Look on the back of your Student Course Request Profile • Select 8 electives you wish to take • See the Freshman Registration High School Guide for course descriptions • Number your electives 1-8 (1 being your most preferred) • These are the electives you may be scheduled to take

FINE ARTS • Band • Beginning Guitar • Theatre Arts/Fundamentals • Music Appreciation • Chorus • Orchestra • Visual Arts Comprehensive If you have auditioned for a fine arts course, the instructor will sign you up for the course. If you have not auditioned, please number next to the course you wish to take.

  13. CAREER TECH PATHWAYS • Intro to Engineering Drawing & Design • Marketing • Cosmetology Services Core 1 • Intro to Culinary Arts • Intro to Healthcare Science • Broadcast & Video Production • Intro to Graphics & Design • Computing in the Modern World • NJROTC Navy 1

  14. PHYSICAL EDUCATION Athletes should enroll in Lifetime Sports or Team Sports to fulfill Required Physical Conditioning

  18. 8th Grade Parent Night Wednesday March 4 at 6:30 p.m. SHS • Subject area teachers will be available for placement questions • Extra curricular representatives in commons • Further assistance filling out registration paperwork

  19. Final Registration • Students confirm their teacher recommended courses • Students select 8 additional electives • Final paperwork due to the middle school • In May students will receive a final print out of course requests
