  1. Page 1 In order to better understand the possible requirements for TeraGrid to accommodate the needs of users who would like to use multiple resources across their requested allocation, this survey has been created to facilitate input from existing and potential TeraGrid users. The answers to the questions below will allow TeraGrid to better determine the specific details of the various users' requirements and how the concept of "multi-resource" usage would impact and/or facilitate a user's research. Would your research benefit from the use of multiple resources? Not Sure Yes No e Page 5 Page 2 Page 16

  2. Page 1 Page 2 Can your code be used on multiple architectures? Yes No Not Sure Page 3

  3. Page 2 Page 3 Can you predict how much time you would want on each machine? Yes No Fail-over if main machine is down Other (please specify) Page 4

  4. Page 4 Page 3 Do you need assistance to use multiple sites? Yes No Page 5

  5. Page 1 and 4 Page 5 How would access to multiple resources help your work? Benchmarking a code across many resources Exploratory work I'm a campus champion, and I want the ability to help campus users explore different resources Flexibility - search for shortest queue (site shopping) Flexibility - submit to multiple resources simultaneously (multi-site run) Flexibility - co-locate computing with data location (move computing to data) None of these would be of use to me. Other (please specify) Page 6

  6. Page 6 Page 5 Do you know which architecture best suits your application? Yes No Not Sure Page 7

  7. Page 7 Page 6 Do you need to tune/test your application on multiple architectures? Yes No Yes No Page 8 Page 9

  8. Page 8 Page 7 How critical is the ability to tune/test your application on multiple architectures? 1-10 Rating Page 9

  9. Page 8 Page 9 Are you a current TeraGrid user? Yes No No Yes Page 10 Page 16

  10. Page 9 Page 10 Currently TeraGrid has the concept of "roaming" which is defined as the ability for a single group (or subgroup) of SUs (unit of measure for TeraGrid resources) provided as part of a user's allocation to be utilized across a group of pre-determined resources without the need to identify ahead of time what percentage of the allocation will be used on each resource in the group. Have you requested roaming allocations in the past? Yes No Yes No Page 11 Page 13

  11. Page 10 Page 11 Did you use the Roaming Allocation? Yes No Yes No Page 13 Page 12

  12. Page 11 Page 12 If you didn't use your roaming allocation, what happened? Page 13

  13. Page 12 Page 13 In what phase of the process did you know what resources your application needed? Before the start-up allocation After the start-up allocation Before the Quarterly TRAC allocation After the Quarterly TRAC allocation Page 14

  14. Page 13 Page 14 Do you need to share SUs across multiple resources? Yes No Page 16

  15. Page 14 Page 15 Do you have any other suggestions on How TeraGrid could accommodate multi-site allocations and how those allocations might be more useful to TeraGrid’s user population(s)? Page 16
