Historic Context • 1754, Fort Western established • 1834, Kennebec Dam Co. incorporated • 1837, Lock completed, 1st boat passes • 1842, Samuel Homans’ sawmills built • 1628, Cushnoc Trading Post opens • 1848, Steamboat Halifax disaster • 1853, Somerset and Kennebec Railroad • opens Augusta to Waterville • 1857, Rail bridge over Kennebec River • 1888, First pulp mill begins operations • 1890, Steel truss rail bridge built • 2004, Cushnoc Crossing Bridge opens • 2009, Mill site acquired by City
