  3. Introductions Throughout history, and therefore throughout literature, it has been proven that cultural interaction is inevitable. Sometimes this interaction leads to growth, innovation, even prosperity, but other times it has led to conflict and even violence. Many theories have developed to ensure that cultural interaction is productive and peaceful. One such theory is Cultural Relativism.Cultural relativism is a theory that argues that if we are open-minded about cultural differences and strive to fully understand other cultures, we will not judge other cultures and instead, only see differences. While this is admirable in theory, cultural relativism is flawed because it fails to acknowledge that in order for a society to thrive, its citizens need to have rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

  4. Introductions • Explore why we are writing this: what is happening in the world today that makes this discussion relevant? • Introduce CR • Thesis

  5. Conclusions Cultural Relativism is one of many theories that have been explored to help make cultural interactions more peaceful and productive. However, like many theories, is not perfect. Because it does not ensure certain rights, the theory, if implemented, would not serve its purpose because it would ultimately lead to an unsuccessful society. However, if the theory were adapted to ensure that these universal truths were recognized, Cultural Relativism could and should be adopted as a model for cultural interactions. Such a model would help to end nations and cultures feeling superior to others, and would help promote peace, while at the same time granting individuals the rights that are necessary for happiness and success.

  6. Conclusions • Restate your argument as a solution. • Suggest what problems this might solve/address now or in the future.

  7. Your turn Begin drafting your intro and conclusion. Staple this sheet to your prewriting packet!!!
