  • Analogy: a comparison between two unlike things, a

    type of imagery

  • Assonance: the repetition of vowel sounds

  • Carpe Diem: Latin saying which means “seize the day”

  • Connotation: subtle undertones that add meaning to

    words

  • Denotation: the dictionary meaning of a word

  • Diction: word choice

  • Enjambment: when a poet ends a line in the middle of

    a thought and continues to the next line
