  2. Qu’est-ce que c’est, l’imparfait? L’imparfait and le passé composé are both past tenses. Unlike the passé composé, the past imperfect tense (l’imparfait) is used to describe an incident in the past which occurred over a duration of time, or a state of being, which can not be confined to a definite time.

Pay special attention to the meaning of the sentence and why, for some situations, the imparfait is more appropriate than the passé composé. 1. Tu (faire) _________les vaiselles lorsque je suis entrée dans la maison. (You were doing the dishes….) 2. Je(être)_________très triste hier. I was very sad yesterday. 3.
