  2. The SASC proposes to meet the need to improve student retention through an avenue of support services leading to: Academic Success Independence and Personal Growth

Goals of the Student Academic Success Center • Identify students in need of services • Provide a program of services including: • An intensive academic support component • Regular, weekly tutoring session plus weekly academic success workshops • An ongoing drop-in component • Provide an opportunity for student growth and involvement through peer tutoring

  4. Target Populations for the Intensive Component of SASC: EO 665: Students in remedial GMS and RWS courses Academic Probation: Students below a 2.0 G.P.A. EO665 Students Students on Academic Probation Student Leaders- struggling academically

Organizational Model of the Intensive Program Component of the SASC Ongoing Assessment Appropriate adjustments to students’ ILPs will be ongoing with progress reviews at the middle and end of each semester Student Success Documentation All ILP information will be maintained in hard copy as wells as electronically into the SASC database Academic Success Workshops Diagnostic Tutoring Development of Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) Assessment of Student Needs

  7. Pre-Assessment Battery 1. Learning styles inventory 2. Study strategies self survey 3. Time management inventory 4. Content skill level- Previous grades Previous test scores Content skill level inventory

Development of Individual Learning Plans (ILP) Identifying processing strengths and weaknesses Identify specific content skill level Establishing goals (broken down into specific skills) Monitoring development of study strategies, use of time management, academic achievement, and program attendance

  9. Academic Success Workshops Each Friday Guest Speakers Conduct Academic Success Workshops Aimed at Improving Specific Study Techniques and Time Management.

  10. Drop In Component of the SASC:Open to the General Student Population • Intake interview – diagnose academic need • One hour tutoring sessions • Tutoring progress reports that are monitored By SASC staff

  12. Professional Growth Opportunities for Tutors • Develop diagnostic skills and problem solving ability • Learn instructional techniques • Improve interpersonal skills • Increase organizational skills • Work as part of a team to increase program efficiency

  13. Program Evaluation • Student’s academic performance • Outtake interviews with students and tutors (changes in study strategies and time management) • SASC staff evaluations

  14. Essential Tools to Design an Effective SASC • Recognize you have a challenge • Conduct an inventory • Engage in conversation • Secure permanent funding • Pursue grants • Assessments
