  23. The Dragon Boat Festival

  24. What is the festival? The Dragon Boat Festival, one of the most important Chinese festivals , also called Double Fifth Festival, is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month of the lunar calendar.

  25. This is Qu Yuan

  26. The origin of this summer festival centers around a scholarly government official named Qu Yuan. He was a good and respected man, but because of the misdeeds of jealous rivals, he eventually fell into disfavor in the emperor's court. Unable to regain the respect of the emperor, Qu Yuan threw himself into the Milow River in his sorrow.

  27. Because of their admiration for Qhu Yuan, the local people living adjacent to the Milo River rushed into their boats to search for him while throwing rice dumpling into the waters to appease the river fish. Although they were unable to find QuYuan, their efforts are still commemorated today during the Dragon Boat Festival.

  29. We always eat Zongzi in this festival.

  30. Eating zongzi Zongzi is an essential food of the Dragon Boat Festival. In early times, it was only glutinous rice dumplings wrapped in reed or other plant leaves and tied with colored thread. But now, the fillings are more diversified, including jujube and bean paste, fresh meat, and ham and egg yolk. If time permits, people will soak glutinous rice, wash reed leaves and wrap up zongzi themselves. Otherwise, they will go to shops to buy whatever stuff they want. And the custom of eating zongzi is now popular in North and South Korea, Japan and Southeast .
