  1. METRICSYSTEM&ScientificMethod Review Mrs. Cannistraci Created by Mr.Whittaker

  2. METRIC UNITS We use to measure temp. ⁰ Celsius We use to measure length meter We use to measure volume liter gram We use to measure mass

  3. Looking at the STICK How many mm? Now, how many cm? 6 7 8 9 10 11 92 mm 107 mm 64 mm 80 mm 9.2 cm 10.7cm 6.4 cm 8.0 cm

  4. SCIENTIFIC METHOD List in order the steps: 5. RECORD and ANALYZE DATA 1. State the PROBLEM 2. GatherINFORMATION 3. Form a HYPOTHESIS How do we write a Hypothesis If ….then …statement 4.TESTthe Hypothesis 6. State the CONCLUSION

  5. SCIENTIFIC METHOD What variable is the one you are testing? The independent variable How many independent variables are in a good experiment ? ONLY one What variable is the data or the results from the experiment? The dependent variable

  6. Mr. Green Thumb wantedto see which brand of fertilizer makes grass grows the fastest, Scott’s , Ace, or Lawn Doctor brands. He sectioned off three equal plots of his front yard and measured the height of the grass in each section using a meter stick. Next he applied the same amount of fertilizer from each brand onto the individual plots. Each day the same amount of water was sprayed on the plots. After one week, Mr. Thumb re-measured the grass height. Results were: Scott’s plot the grass grew 3.0 cm, in the Ace plotit grew 2.5 cm and in the Lawn Dr. it grew 3.2 cm.

  7. Use the previous experiment’s information to answer these question. Click to check you answers Name the independent variable. Fertilizer brands Name the dependent variable. Grass height cm Name some of the controls. Same yard (type of grass) , same amount of water & fertilizer, Same amount of time

  8. Use the information in Mr. Thumb’s experiment to answer these questions. Click to check you answers I think, if Scott’s fertilizer is used then the grass will grow faster. State a Hypothesis State a conclusion Hint: 3 parts Scott’s grass grew 3.0 cm, Ace grass grew 2.5 cm and Lawn Dr. the grass grew 3.2 cm. My hypothesis was wrong, Lawn Dr. grew grass the fastest, because it has more phosphorus.
