  1. By Meredith DeLong The escape from Iranthe objective of this for you to understand how difficult it is to escape a hostile country

  2. A Regular Day • Ben Tamoorazi was a doctor in a hospital in Iran and he was also a Christian, a minority religion • That was a problem for some Iran citizens. I quote Ben “ if you were a non christian touched by a christian you were corrupted” • One day when Ben was examining an Iranian soldier, the boy lashed out at Ben because he found out Ben was a Christian and the soldier wasn’t • That was when Ben realized he needed to leave as soon as possible

  3. Illegal to leave • He wanted to leave the country legally • But men weren't allowed to leave unless they were 60 years or older • Woman on the other hand were allowed to leave • Which made the situation • helpless

  4. Unexpected event • It all changed one day when Ben received a patient that was diagnosed with a spinal infection • It all seemed hopeless and everyone gave up on the patient except for Ben • Ben saved the patient in the end • But apparently the pateints uncle was the prime minster and told Ben if he ever needed a favor he could just ask and Ben told him about his goal and the minster said he knew a man who could help

  5. The president • When Ben arrived a block away from the address that was given to him to meet the minster, he had to walk but then a man had to escort him…and he was armed with a machine gun!! • Ben arrived at the dinner and the prime minster , including the president, he had no idea he would be meeting the president and they had no idea he was a Christian. • Had they known he would've been killed immediately. • So Ben asked the president if he could leave for a medical meeting away from the country. The president said he was sorry but there was not a legal way for him to leave

  6. The Illegal way • Ben came into contact with a man who could forge passports and they set up a plan to leave the country • He had to grow out his hair, wear contacts, change the way he talked to fit the passports • The first two attempts were unsuccessful • But the third was a success!!!!!

  7. Germany! • When Ben arrived in Germany he had to prove to Germany that he was Ben Tamoorazi not the man he pretended to be • To do that his family had to send him his real passport • He was then verified as Ben and was brought to America because his parents mailed the passport to him by the church

  8. AMERICA LAND OF THE FREE! • In the end Ben went to America got married and continued to be a doctor • And practices in Bloomington IL and is no longer threatened by his religion

  9. POINT!!!!!!!! • But the point I'm trying to get across is do you understand what this man had to go through just to get here. I mean he could've been killed, beaten, or shot yet he still made it. It was that difficult just to get out of his country! • Why United States? • Ben had family here and he knew America would offer him the most opportunity of any country
