  1. LIFE SKILLS EDUCATION BY SHAIK MOHAMMAD SALEEM

  2. Life skills???? • We all want to live well and make the most of our lives. If we want to accomplish it effectively and to our full potential we must be able to put into practice the necessary life skills. • As with any job, sport or discipline, in order to be proficient at it, you must acquire and master the requisite skills. Living life fully and productively is no different.

  3. Where do you begin? • You begin by establishing a firm foundation. That foundation is "you". You must know who you are, what you want, and what you are capable of. You must then determine which values, goals and principles you will set up to guide your actions.

  4. HOW LSE HELPS YOU….. Learning about and applying the life skills will help you: • know and understand yourself better • live life more consciously and deliberately • attain personal satisfaction and fulfillment.

  5. Why are these skills essential? • What good is all the financial success in the world if you don't love yourself, know yourself, know what you really want or what you're doing here? We've all witnessed many outwardly successful and famous people who have not been able to find personal happiness. No amount of fame or fortune could fill the void they felt inside.

  6. THE BEGINNINGS… • 1979-Dr.Gilbert Botwin, a behavioural scientist published a LSE training programme for youth. • It was designed basically as a “prevention programme” aimed to assist young people to regain control over their behaviour. His intention was to create a single prevention strategy that could target substance use behaviours.

  7. THE EARLY INITIATIVES… • 1993-WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION recognized the need for such a programme. • WHY? • WHO`S VIEW OF HEALTH: • “The state of complete physical, mental and social well being.” • 1997-UNICEF recognized several levels of LSE • Spreads in several countries after 1998- including India. • 2001-A pilot project in KVS- (UNICEF sponsored programme in 40 schools of Delhi )

  8. Life skill education Examines alternatives and possibilities Allows for making choices. Leads to personal empowerment Moral/Value education Gives guidelines- right /wrong; good /bad Set of prescriptions to be compulsorily followed. Makes one, duty bound DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LSE &ME/VE
