  1. 1 Corinthians 11:1-16 1 Be ye imitators of me, even as I also am of Christ. 2Now I praise you that ye remember me in all things, and hold fast the traditions, even as I delivered them to you. 3But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God. 4Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonoreth his head. 5But every woman praying or prophesying with her head unveiled dishonoreth her head; for it is one and the same thing as if she were shaven.

  2. 1 Corinthians 11:1-16 • 6For if a woman is not veiled, let her also be shorn: but if it is a shame to a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be veiled. 7For a man indeed ought not to have his head veiled, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man. 8For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man: 9for neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man: 10for this cause ought the woman to have a sign of authority on her head, because of the angels.

  3. 1 Corinthians 11:1-16 • 11Nevertheless, neither is the woman without the man, nor the man without the woman, in the Lord. 12For as the woman is of the man, so is the man also by the woman; but all things are of God. 13Judge ye in yourselves: is it seemly that a woman pray unto God unveiled? 14Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a dishonor to him? 15But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering. 16But if any man seemeth to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither the churches of God.

  10. Issues That Divide Brethren Wearing The Covering In The Assembly - part 2 1 Corinthians 11:4-6

  11. We Will Consider Important Questions About The covering • What is the covering • Who must wear covering • When must the covering be worn • Where must it be worn

  12. 1. What Is The Covering? • What Those Advocating It Call It • C.M Pullias – Some covering in addition to her hair “Sword Of Peace, July 1961 • Fred Dennis – Veil or Hat “Christian Woman And Their Covering” pg 5 • Bernard Bolton – Covering or veil “Words of Truth” Feb 1975 Pg 1 • Cecil Dill – Veil “What Does First Corinthians 11:1-16 Teach? Pg 1 • Dick Ward – Veil, something taken from “Orlando Notes” on Verse 6 • Carrol Sutton – Veil “A Verse By Verse Study Of 1 Corinthians 11:1-16” • John T. Lewis – Veil “The Posture In Prayer And Covered And Uncovered Heads In Worship” Quotes Clark, Wesley, Mcgarvey, and Campbell

  13. 1. What Is The Covering? • Scripture • Exodus 34:29-35 29And it came to pass, when Moses came down from mount Sinai with the two tables of the testimony in Moses’ hand, when he came down from the mount, that Moses knew not that the skin of his face shone by reason of his speaking with him. 30And when Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, behold, the skin of his face shone; and they were afraid to come nigh him. 31And Moses called unto them; and Aaron and all the rulers of the congregation returned unto him: and Moses spake to them. 32And afterward all the children of Israel came nigh: and he gave them in commandment all that Jehovah had spoken with him in mount Sinai. 33And when Moses had done speaking with them, he put a veil on his face. 34But when Moses went in before Jehovah to speak with him, he took the veil off, until he came out; and he came out, and spake unto the children of Israel that which he was commanded. 35And the children of Israel saw the face of Moses, that the skin of Moses’ face shone: and Moses put the veil upon his face again, until he went in to speak with him.

  14. 1. What Is The Covering? • Paul Made Reference To This Event - 2 Cor 3:7-16 7But if the ministration of death, written, and engraven on stones, came with glory, so that the children of Israel could not look stedfastly upon the face of Moses for the glory of his face; which glory was passing away: 8how shall not rather the ministration of the spirit be with glory? 9For if the ministration of condemnation hath glory, much rather doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory. 10For verily that which hath been made glorious hath not been made glorious in this respect, by reason of the glory that surpasseth. 11For if that which passeth away was with glory, much more that which remaineth is in glory. 12Having therefore such a hope, we use great boldness of speech, 13and are not as Moses, who put a veil upon his face, that the children of Israel should not look stedfastly on the end of that which was passing away: 14but their minds were hardened: for until this very day at the reading of the old covenant the same veil remaineth, it not being revealed to them that it is done away in Christ. 15But unto this day, whensoever Moses is read, a veil lieth upon their heart. 16But whensoever it shall turn to the Lord, the veil is taken away.

  22. What Is A Prophet? • Difference between teaching and prophesying • At Antioch there were prophets AND teachers Acts 13:1 • God has set some in the church 1 Cor 12:28 • First there are apostles • Second there are prophets • Third there are teachers • Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? 1 Cor. 12:29 • He gave some as apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers Eph 4:11 • As there were falseprophets among the people, there will be falseteachers among you 2 Pet 2:1 • Inspired teaching and Prophesying Is Received Directly From God • Uninspired teachers teaching thing God revealed are not prophesying • They were to take no though what they were to say or how they were to speak Lk. 12:11 • They Holy Spirit would teach them in that hour what they should say • Uninspired teachers and preachers do not have that promise or that ability given them • Uninspired teachers are subject to error in their teaching, they were not

  23. What Is A Prophet? • Uninspired gospel teaching is not Inspired teaching or prophesying • I discussed this with covering advocates • They reasoned revealed teaching same as uninspired teaching Ex. 7:1-2 • Moses was as God to Pharaoh and Aaron was Moses’ prophet • That false prophets did not actually speak for a Deity • As we teach we are speaking for God today • Therefore uninspired teaching principally same as inspired teaching • But as Moses was as God to Pharaoh so Aaron was his prophet • Moses spoke all God commanded him • Moses delivered that to Aaron who spoke for Moses Who was AS God • It’s still inspired teaching being revealed to Pharaoh Directly from God • Their wives wore veil whenever in assembly • Built upon a false premise - uninspired and inspired teaching same
