  26. Living A Life of Freedom The Heart of It All Galatians 2:11-16

  27. Thanksgiving for the Word

  28. O Word of God incarnate, O Wisdom from on high, O Truth unchanged, unchanging, O Light of our dark sky: We praise You for the radiance That from the hallowed page, A lantern to our footsteps, Shines on from age to age.

  29. Scripture Reading— Galatians 2:11-16 (New Testament, Page 188 in NRSV pew Bible)

  30. But when Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he stood self-condemned; for until certain people came from James, he used to eat with the Gentiles. But after they came, he drew back and kept himself separate for fear of the circumcision faction.

  31. And the other Jews joined him in this hypocrisy, so that even Barnabas was led astray by their hypocrisy. But when I saw that they were not acting consistently with the truth of the gospel,

  32. I said to Cephas before them all, “If you, though a Jew, live like a Gentile and not like a Jew, how can you compel the Gentiles to live like Jews?”

  33. We ourselves are Jews by birth and not Gentile sinners; yet we know that a person is justified not by the works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ.

  34. And we have come to believe in Christ Jesus, so that we might be justified by faith in Christ, and not by doing the works of the law, because no one will be justified by the works of the law.

  40. *Hymn • My Hope Is Built • on Nothing Less • # 379 in the Blue Hymnal

  41. My hope is built on nothing lessThan Jesus’ blood and righteousness; I dare not trust the sweetest frame, But • wholly lean on Jesus’ name. • On Christ, the solid Rock I stand; All other ground is sinking sand,All other ground is sinking sand.

  42. When darkness veils His lovely face, I rest on His unchanging grace; In every high and stormy gale, My anchor holds • within the veil. • On Christ, the solid Rock I stand; All other ground is sinking sand,All other ground is sinking sand.

  43. His oath, His covenant, • His blood Support me in the whelming flood; When all around my soul gives way, He then • is all my hope and stay. • On Christ, the solid Rock I stand; All other ground is sinking sand,All other ground is sinking sand.

  44. When He shall come with trumpet sound, Oh may I then in Him be found, Dressed in His righteousness alone, Faultless to stand before the throne. • On Christ, the solid Rock I stand; All other ground is sinking sand,All other ground is sinking sand.
