  1. 2013 RPC M&OB scrutiny Hafeez Hoorani (NCP) RM PierluigiPaolucci (INFN-NA) PM

  2. 2 RPC detector and operation Double gap RPC chambers = 1056 • Barrel 480: 4 stations, 5 wheels, 12 sectors • End-cap 576: 2 x 4 stations, 2 rings, 36 sectors) RPC strips = 109608 + 96*144 912 HV + 1580 LV channels Successful assembly, testing, installation and commissioning campaign for RE4 (144 ch) in 2013 spilling over to 2014 Very low, stable dark current and noise rate: no detector performance deterioration Key of success:clear procedures for prompt intervention during all beam-off access time 19 institutions in 2013 (92 RPC authors) , 2 new institutions in 2013

  3. 2013 Budget status In 2013 all contributions arrived on time. In order to help the small groups we allow them to pay a small part in kind Carry over this year is bit more than the last year because: • Postpone all the maintenance, calibration, and spares in 2013 to 2014. Expected expenditure for this item will be more than foreseen roughly 50 kCHF. • Some LS1 activities were postponed to 2014 due to the schedule.

  4. For B.1.06 Standard Electronics: Only 20% planned budget was spent because Spares, maintenance and calibration of modules was postponed For B1.13 Store Items: Some of LS1 activities are taking place during 2014

  5. 2013 hired manpower • In-kindcontribution in manpower: some countriesprovidemanpower on specific items decided by the RPC IB. • Subsistence for engineers or physicists/students with technicalskill, to cover extra cost of staying in the Geneva area (notsame for allpeople). • Long TermSubsistencePayment(similar to subsistencebut for longer time) for people with experience in DPG, trigger, commissioning and operationwhoactas a detector expert (on call) and trainer for otherpeople. In-kind contribution 50000.0 CHF Long term more than 4 months (2 persons) + 111456.0 CHF Subsistence + 89544.0 CHF ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Total manpower expenditure = 251000 CHF Total manpower allocation = 201000 CHF

  6. Budget Projection until 2018

  7. Conclusions • We keep increasing the number of institutions participating to the RPC project. Two new institutions in 2013 (total 19). This allows us to keep a low cost/authors. • The financial support in 2013 allowed LS1 activities related to RPC system to take place on time and smoothly. • In 2013 the carry-over from 2012 was re-allocated mostly for the LS1 activities in particular for QC4. • After the LS1 shutdown we will have 3 years of data taking and for this reason the estimated budget for the 2015-2018 M&OB will be reduced of about 30%, with more request on manpower and less on material.

  8. BACKUP SLIDES

  9. 2012 budget: original request The budget allocation for 2012 was presented to SG referee in 2011. During last RRB meeting with referees in 2012 it was already approved an increase of budget for manpower and a corresponding decrease of budget for material.
