UniSA ranked 14th in Australia for research income and in the top 10 for percentage of academics with a doctorate The recent Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) exercise showed: Over 70% of assessed UniSA research is at world-class standard - 90% in some areas Beat Group of Eight unis in many areas Research excellence

Ranking Indicators • Federal and state governments have awarded UniSA: • $45M for a new materials and minerals science learning and research facility at Mawson Lakes • Over $13M to support research centres of national importance in the humanities and social sciences, including the International Centre for Muslim and non-Muslim Understanding, the National Centre for Student Equity in Higher Education and the Australian Centre for Child Protection. • $30M towards a new $95M student learning centre and associated projects

Ranking indicators • The biggest improvement of any Australian university in the 2010 QS World University Rankings • Associate Professor Mahfuz Aziz awarded the 2009 Prime Minister’s Award for Australian University Teacher of the Year. • MBA highest ranked in SA and one of only 8 in Australia to have a five-star rating • European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS) accreditation for the Division of Business – one of only 129 business schools world-wide, including only eight in Australia to have EQUIS accreditation

Ranking Indicators • UniSA very strong in combined government and industry funding: • Cooperative Research Centre for Contamination Assessment and Remediation of the Environment awarded $29M in federal funding for environmental remediation technologies and will attract a further $148M from industry partners • Institute for Telecommunications Research awarded a $4.9M Australian Space Research Program grant; with industry support this will be worth $12M

To Realise Horizon 2020, we will: • Invest at least A$1 billion to support our ambitions • Provide an even more outstanding student experience and produce exceptional graduates • Provide education defined by real-world application and links to international research • Have an international reputation for highly innovative solutions to research questions of global significance • Develop a world-leading research infrastructure for world-leading research • Be the University of Choice for local and international students

International Strategy: Students • Future student recruitment • Growth of student intake • Diversification of student intake (countries and subjects) • Quality of the students we recruit • More postgraduates – especially PhD students (More than 1000 now, increase to at least 1500 • Refine our “international brand” • We need to develop partnerships with centres of excellence in countries that are or will be importance in science, technology, social science, health and business • Student progression (2+2, 2+1, 3+1 etc) • Collaborative PhD supervision • Staff development programmes with partners
