  1. State Report • State WIB Award for Regions - When 80% of counties have 50% completion and Region is at 20% Gold • Accelerated Counties not at Goal to prepare 6 months action plans • New Website – before end of year – in beta • Job Profile Summaries on site – how many Gold job profiles? • Shopping cart for outreach materials • At State WIB, Vice Chair Wendall Dallas and member Valencia Adams reported on WR assessment experience at Gwinnett Tech – Wendall scored Platinum

Team Leaders Meeting • Counties have issue with Category – Barrow – have to be coached on where to put “hash mark” • DeKalb – working to have proctors in each high school and test all 6000 seniors • Video presentation – correlation with HS grad rates • Incorporating WR is all dual enrollments • If having trouble with a high school, can report issue to Sue Snow (DOE) • Are Team Leaders talking to Graduation Coaches?

Tracking • Increased Emphasis on Targeting the Available Workforce, specially the unemployed has resulted in: • 737 jump from September to October with 91 Gold • Up from previous increases of 300+ available workforce each month and 67 Gold monthly • Numbers have increased with the new Workforce Board mandates for assessments – DeKalb requiring all attending orientation and ARC requiring of all applying for and attending training

Increased Numbers Strategies in Counties less than goal • Articles in Oglethorpe County paper about School Superintendent taking the assessment has spurred other nearby counties to get school systems on board • Clarke School Systems Youth Apprenticeship coordinator working with English and Economics Teachers for student assessments • Barrow successful in getting major industry as chair of Workforce Committee • Gwinnett Mayors of Duluth, Norcross, Suwanee and Lilburn will be in a challenge for the GOLD – Gwinnett Leadership group to be challenged

  6. Go for the Gold strategies • Awarding $20 gas card – may obtain up to $40 • Signs posted in Georgia Department of Labor, Goodwill, DFCS and Church Network Groups • Mass emails, follow-up phone calls • Gas card flyers handed out at job fairs/expos • Increased visibility through Georgia Trend • Increased traffic due to Billboards – Walton County

  7. Other Regional Strategies Heart of Georgia • Targeted industries paying $50 incentive to take assessments - $100 for earning Platinum • High Schools giving grade adjustments for WR and WR recognized at graduation Chattahoochee Valley • Offering $100 Visa Cards for first 100 paying Gold

Other Regional Strategies West Georgia Advanced Manufacturing • Split Advertisement Costs • Pay 50% of job advertisements with WR Preferred, Required or Logo • Limit for Company depending # of jobs ($500 - $1000) Example – Company runs 4 days of ads for WR Technician. Each ad costs $200 weekdays and $400 weekends (Total $1000). Region reimburses $500 to company upon hiring a WR certified technician

Other Regional Strategies West Georgia Advanced Manufacturing Pilot Awareness Agent Agent to contact a minimum of 50 small or retail businesses to make them aware of WR Base Pay - $3000 Bronze to $5000 Gold plus incentive pay: $100 for each notarized agreement to advertise and hire WR $100 for each qualifying job profile $100 for 5% of current employees to be assessed 90 day service agreement (Trial)

Life Science Jobs Profiled/In Works • BioLab – initial Rockdale County > Gwinnett County • Rhodia, chemical company in Barrow County – early stages (Plant manager chairing WR committee) • Micromeritics - Gwinnett • WIKA – Gwinnett – additional profiles within company • DeKalb Medical - discussion stages • Kemira Chemicals – Cobb (R&D) • LifeLink – Gwinnett – discussion stages • Industry Network Group will hear about Work Ready job profiling in detail on December 9, 2008

Furthering the cause • Cinda Herndon-King speaking at Building BioTech Bridges in San Diego, October 29 on model programs • Association for Career and Technical Education in Charlotte, December 4 – GaBio, Biotechnology Institute, Athens Tech and Gwinnett Tech and Walton Career Academy are presenting a workshop on the IC as a model partnership in workforce development • Innovation Crescent Workforce group included technical colleges, Ga Bio and ARC selected to present workshop at the BioInternational Conference May 2009
