  1. Quiz #7 - KEY Rotational Path of Placement • Describe the path of placement for a conventional RPD. Follows a single path, determined by guide planes, until all rests seat simultaneously. 2) Describe the path of placement for a rotational path RPD. Initial path permits seating of one portion of the RPD, followed by rotation of the remainder of the RPD into its final position.

  2. Rotational Path of Placement, con’t 3) The feature of a rotational path RPD that replaces the conventional retentive clasp is known as the rigid retainer. 4) The rest seat preparations for rotational path RPDs require more/ the same/ less depth and outline extension, compared with conventional RPD rest seats.

  3. Rotational Path of Placement, con’t 5) When using tipped molars as posterior abutments for a rotational path RPD, the recommended rest seat outline for the molars is described as “asymmetric” or “dovetailed.” What is the purpose of this? Encirclement, to prevent the tooth from moving away from the framework.

  4. Rotational Path of Placement, con’t 6) What is a divider? A drafting tool that has two pointed arms connected by a hinge. When a marking medium (such as graphite) is placed at the tip of one arm, the instrument becomes a compass. 7) What is a divider used for in a rotational path RPD? Used to determine and check rotational centers, adequacy of undercuts, and amount of block-out needed.

  5. Rotational Path of Placement, con’t 8) How are casts tripodized for rotational path RPDs? Two sets of lines paralleling the analyzing rod, one corresponds with the initial path of placement, the other corresponds with the final rotational direction. 9) Generally, in rotational path RPDs, the greater the distance between anterior and posterior retention devices, the less displacement of the RPD during use. True/ False

  6. Rotational Path of Placement, con’t 10) The use of rotational path designs in extension base RPDs is recommended/ not recommended.
