  3. WHY DO WE PRE-WRITE? • Practice writing • Come up with a topic • Plan our story/essay • Organize ideas • Focus our writing • Make things easier when we start to draft

PLETHORA OF PREWRITING • (PLETHORA means AN EXCESS OF) • There are SO MANY types of prewriting • You can even make up your own! • Usually I (Ms. Fey) create charts and graphic organizers for your pre-writing • However, certain types of pre-writing are better for different types of writing or different parts of the writing process

  6. They Are Good For… • BRAINSTORMING/LISTING • WORD ASSOCIATION • FREE WRITING • COMING UP WITH A TOPIC • PRACTICING WRITING • SEEING WHERE YOU MIND TAKES YOU • These can be used for any type of writing – fiction or non-fiction (personal narrative, persuasive essay, etc.)
