Metaphor Comparison of two things that are basically unlike but have common qualities Ex: The runner was a cheetah. Personification Giving human qualities to an animal, object or idea Ex: The moon sat in the tall trees. Foreshadowing When a writer provides a hint to suggest future events in a story Ex: “The sky was getting dark and thunder started rumbling in.” –This foreshadows a storm. Conflict Struggle between opposing forces Ex:I knew that going to school was the right thing to do but I really wanted to skip. I didn’t know what to do. Figurative Language Word being used in an imaginative way to express ideas that are not completely true. EX:The boy was screaming his head off.
