  3. Case Study:BGOK’s e-learning system • SAP HR Learning Solution system • Supports classroom and e-learning courses too • Each BGOK course is registered there Railway E-learning Workshop

  4. BGOK’s E-Learning system I. SAP HR LSO contains: • Learning Management System • Learning Portal • Development tool - Authoring tool • Content structurer - Repository tool Railway E-learning Workshop

  5. BGOK’s E-Learning system I. • E-portal is avaible on MAV’s intranet • 12 500 licences • Students’ registration to an e-learning course is also an automatic registration to an SAP HR system (catalogue of courses) • The course outcome is (qualification) automatically added to employee’s profile Railway E-learning Workshop

  6. BGOK’s E-Learning system I. Weaknesses of the system: • Can’t be reached via Internet (yet) • MAV’s network system (shortage connection) • Not enough computers avaible (Intranet) • Different types of operation system Railway E-learning Workshop

  7. BGOK’s E-Learning system II. Another way Off line CD • Run the SAP e-learning content • It looks-alike portal’s content player • Automatically check and install the required softwares • Run with different type of operation systems Railway E-learning Workshop

  8. The Online version Railway E-learning Workshop

  9. The CD version Railway E-learning Workshop

  10. Our E-learning Portal: Railway E-learning Workshop

  11. Parameters I.: • Private registration (user – password) • Core and elective courses • Booking for clasroom courses • Qualifications can be checked • Personal Notes • Searching function Railway E-learning Workshop

  12. Parameters II.: • Students can set their learning’s strategy – Personal learning progress • Starts with their own courses (courses they have not finished yet!) • Course Evaluation • Remarks can be done continously Railway E-learning Workshop

  13. Content player: Railway E-learning Workshop

  14. Content player features I.: • Easy to use (not too many buttons) • Table of contents • Students can step over chapters if it is permitted by author • Support to play off-line course Railway E-learning Workshop

  15. Weaknesses and it would be useful… • More communicative • Students and instructurer forum - chat • Group management – files sharing • Support the students • Interactive support with internal messages • Knowledge database – like Wikipedia Railway E-learning Workshop

  16. Development tool – Authoring Enviroment • Tool for creating and structuring learning content • Assists the author to administrate and versioning the learning content • Supports different types of e-strategy (e.g. exercise or example – oriented) - BUT better way • Able to import and export SCORM 1.2 standards Railway E-learning Workshop

  17. Authoring enviroment vs. SCORM structure Learning Nets Content Blokk Learning Nets Learning Object SCO Instruction elements --- Content source (html) Asset Railway E-learning Workshop

  18. Screen layout of Authoring enviroment Railway E-learning Workshop

  19. Features: • Make learning strategy with graphically edited relations • It contains assessment author • Template manager • Quality management with messages Railway E-learning Workshop

  20. Weaknesses and it would be useful… • User friendly interface vs. Reusable objects • Better design • Less complicated directories • More tools for creating pages (multimedia tools) Railway E-learning Workshop

  21. Structuring contents - Repository Explorer • Contains: • Master Repository – only few authors have licence • Local Repository – every author has licence • Create learning contents with workflow: • Creating • Uploading • Authorizing the content • Publishing Railway E-learning Workshop

  22. Screen layout of Repository Explorer Railway E-learning Workshop

  23. Weaknesses and it would be useful… • Softwares Quality (unreliable upgrades) • Better system feedback • More useable layout • Limits of the assessment tool (470 question) Railway E-learning Workshop

  24. Plans for the future… • SAP HR LSO system upgrade • Make exam for 10.000 employee at 2008 • On-line exams • Cd off-line exams • Intranet Internet Railway E-learning Workshop

  25. Thank you very much for your attention! Dobás László dobas.laszlo@bgok.hu Railway E-learning Workshop

  26. Groupwork 1(Railway training center point of view)Questions • Should it be compatible with e-learning standards? If yes, which ones? • Should it be integrated with other IT systems? Like personel administration, or event organizer. • Should it contain authoring feature as well? • What are the adventages (disadventages) of using off-line (on-line) version? Railway E-learning Workshop

  27. Groupwork 1(railway training center point of view)Questions • Can it have cost effective licence system? • Can it be used for assessment examination testing? • Does it provide easy access for the students? • How it can support inter-students, instructors-students activity? • Is it requires very sophisticated IT hardware and network background? Railway E-learning Workshop

  28. Groupwork 2(railway students’ point of view)Questions • What are the most important requierements of the E-learning system from railway students’ point of view? • What are the main tools that an e-learning system should contain? • What assessment tools are needed? • Can a student choose a different learning strategy? • Does it provide enough multimedia tools to help understanding? • Can the content be printed out? • Can the student contact other students or the instructor? Railway E-learning Workshop

  29. Groupwork 2(railway students’ point of view)Questions • Is their a way to test their knowledge before the serious exam? • Is their a way to test their knowledge before the serious exam? • Can it be used offline? Can the content be taken to home? • Can the student personalize the interface? • If the student is not an office worker can he still use e-learning? • Is it easy to use for a non-IT expert? Does it requires special IT skills? • Can the student check if he received the qualification? Railway E-learning Workshop

  30. Some advantages of our e-learning system • Cheap way to study, effected way of examination • Modern method • Huge number of the students (10 000) • Could help to improve employee’s knowledge by themselves (even at home) • Flexible scedule Railway E-learning Workshop

  31. Some advantages of our e-learning system • Good learning management • Automatically registrate the courses • Save Human resources for training center • E-learning content could help better study with interactivity • With animations student can get special knowledge (abnormal situation) Railway E-learning Workshop
