Communication Structures • National: • Inter-Sectoral Child Justice Committee: Chaired by the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development was specifically set up to gather information and make recommendations for specific interventions concerning the situation of children awaiting trial in detention. The Committee has broadened its functions to include all matters relating to children accused of crimes. The Committee monitors children awaiting trial through a collation of statistics provided by the Departments of Correctional Services, Social Development and SAPS. • Provincial • Local
