Basic Principles • Assessing family structure * operational rules (don’t talk) * operational roles (scapegoat) * family subsystems (siblings) * boundary permeability (enmeshment or disengagement) * alignments, power, coalitions, hierarchies, triangulation • “Dysfunction” due to dysfunctional structure within the family

  4. Process of Therapy • Joining and accommodating * mimesis (mirroring) * confirming (validating) * absolution of blame • Assessing family interactions * done from the start and ongoing (organizational structure and ongoing transactional patterns)

  5. Process of Therapy • Monitoring Family Dysfunctional Sets * boundary making * enactment • Restructuring Transactional Patterns * reframing (relabeling) * increasing the stress * make it happen • Therapist as agent of change (the need to be directive)
