Objectives of Networking Meeting: • To develop a network regarding Projects on cultural diversity, Citizenship, Human Rights, Status of woman in our society, Democracy, Peace Education, etc. • To develop a platform for sharing ideas, methodologies, Research papers, joint researches and other relevant studies & approaches • To exchange the students problems & vision regarding key issues. • To share key issues & problems. • To exchange success stories & best practices. • To develop a channel for curriculum development & modalities including ideas on participation in the development of Textbooks for the New curriculum. • To develop a network of Mobilizing the youth for national harmony & Peace. • To share the posters, essays, text materials, documentaries, etc on these key issues. • To have more networking meetings for a bigger change.

  4. Introduction: Reclaiming Cultural and Social Diversity: Mobilizing Youth for National Harmony and Peace: the Search for Resources Within

  5. Project Goal: “Addressing conflict and diversity through dialogues and texts to promote national harmony”

  6. Project Objectives: • Selected students (grades VIII-X) from 8-10 secondary schools across Pakistan will identify and debate issues on identity, diversity and sources of conflict. • Hold an essay competition, dialogues and online communication exchange with selected youth (gender balanced) from public and private schools in four provinces. • Develop learning materials, texts and posters for grades 8 to 10 to engage with cultural diversity; to respect and value living histories and positive cultural practices.

Project Objectives. • Disseminate the materials generated to textbook boards, writers, the private examination boards and the national curriculum wing for influencing the writing of the textbooks and/or to be used as supplementary materials for grades VIII-X. • Develop guidelines/manuals for teachers to use the learning materials and to conduct training workshops for teachers. • Publish two research papers and at least 10-12 best essays highlighting the sources of conflict and recommendations for respecting diversity, histories for peace and harmony. • Hold a national round table seminar in December 2007 to share the project experience, outputs, and outcomes with relevant stake holders

Long Term Objectives • Lend support to an emerging national youth movement which would focus on valuing cultural diversity and initiate the process of peace, positive engagement and harmony between provinces, led by the youth themselves • Extend the work conducted with grades VIII to X across the entire schooling years. • The texts and resources generated would serve as an example for education policy makers and curriculum developers on how to acknowledge and educate about cultural diversity, promoting peace, tolerance, and harmony in the country.

Long Term Objectives • Form a repository of films/art work/documentaries about all provinces on the themes of cultural and historical diversity. • The papers /essays produced will be leveraged to influence various policies: viz. Education and Youth. All materials produced will be disseminated to the Departments of Education, Culture, Youth Religious Affairs, Particular focus will be extended to Textbooks boards, Examination Boards and the Curriculum Wing backed by the respective secretaries and Ministers of Education and Culture.

  10. Research Report Based on perception Survey A perception survey developed by AKU-IED was taken and modified by the Project coordinator and International Adviser to meet the needs of the project. The survey conducted in all four provinces The 1st Round of the Perception Survey completed. We selected 72 students from all provinces .i.e. 36 from the project group and 36 from the non project group. The project group sample is selected on the basis of essay results while the non project group is randomly selected

  12. Project Group: • After selection of schools, we conducted an essay competition among the students of grades 8th to 10th of the above mentioned schools. We selected 36 students from this essay competition with gender balance. This essay competition group is called our project group. In this project group 34 students also participated in the Dialogue Session. The Sampling methodology of project group is as under: • Sampling Frame: All the students A who participated in Essay Competition. • Sample Size: 36 students are selected on the basis of Essay’s results. • The Sampling Methodology is as under:

Non-Project Group: • After selection of project group, 36 students are also randomly selected from the students who did not participate in the essay competition from all selected schools with gender balance. This group is called non-project group. The sampling methodology of non project group is as under: • Sampling Frame: All the students of grades 8th to 10th who did not participated in Essay Competition. • Sample Size: 36 students are selected randomly. • Gender Balance: 17 boys & 19 girls. • Province Balance: 9 students are selected from each provinces. • The Sampling Methodology is as under
