  1. K&C Communications Activities & Plans • Hired Communications Coordinator to: • Serve as staff liaison for all K&C volunteer “communications” positions • Provide editorial direction and distribute K&C Leadership News • Solicit and compile K&C information for quarterly Society reports • Global Index (tracking international conference attendance) • Sector Management Committee (major K&C activities and issues) • Sector Balanced Scorecard (progress on goals and milestones for K&C and Institutes) • Disseminate awareness among all K&C units on use of new ASME.org functionalities • Communications to volunteer leadership • Webinars for volunteer Group page admins • Volunteer and staff support • Sharing pertinent news and developments with primary ASME social media channels • Maintaining @asmeconferences Twitter account • Edit and distribute HTML e-mails for event promotions • Update ERTD and other staff on K&C and departmental activities • Future plans: • FY13 Year-End Edition highlighting major K&C accomplishments • Will serve key communication role during K&C re-org

  2. Interim Operation Guide for Sections • Interim governance document that reflects: • Operational/procedural changes necessary to complete transition of Sections from being “Affiliates” to “Units” of ASME • New requirements and criteria to improve Section compliance, reporting and planning • Provides flexibility with ongoing K&C organizational, policy and procedural changes • Refers to separate “Procedures Manual for Sections” (to be developed) for guidance on policy and administrative procedures • Major procedural changes and requirements: • Replace individual Section bylaws with a single, centralized and standard operation guide for all Sections • No longer require approval of volunteer personnel by general Section membership • Sub-sections and Groups as administrative “Subordinate Units” to a Section • Replace Member petition process for new Section formation • Need to develop criteria to submit proposal to form an official ASME Section (include in “Procedures Manual for Sections”) • Recommend setting up a task force to come up with the criteria based on market, landscape, size of group, technical interests, etc.

  3. Interim Operation Guide for Sections • Need to put a moratorium on forming new Sections, Sub-sections and Groups (especially international ones) until: • New financial requirements for international sections are sorted out • Operation Guide is worked out and ready for implementation • The K & C realignment and the future organization is worked out • In interim, advise interested members to start an “unofficial” online group on ASME.org to start building community and dialogue
