  1. On-Campus Housing-- For Gateway Parents & Family -- “ Live at the Heart of the Aggie Experience ” Jeff Wilson ‘84 Assistant Director Division of Student Affairs Department of Residence Life Disclaimer: Info is current as June 29, 2011

  2. Who is this Dude ? I’m an Aggie… a “former” Gateway student … and a graduate of the Corps of Cadets I’m a parent of… … a current Aggie … WHOOP!!… one going to that other school … SISSS…and one going to TAMU-Galveston …WHOOP!! But most importantly…I am the Housing Dude

  3. Things to Keep in Mind • For the Fall -- freshmen are not required to live on campus … I hope you are not surprised ? • We “closed” housing in early-April the last 3 years … because we were FULL • Loss of 4 halls and Corps Renovation (~ 900 spaces) added to problem We only have room for ~5500 “freshmen” on campus

  4. Applied for fall housing… • Permanent Housing – applied before April 7thth • Temporary / Over Assignment Housing • Applied AFTER April 7th • … or we have not received your bacterial meningitis documentation • Right now, students in Temporary/Over assignments: • ~300 men • ~400 women …and over 1,000 on our Notification List

  5. Temporary / Over Assignments • Guarantees you will have a “bed” somewhere on campus next fall, but it might be: • T.V. Lounge or Study Carrel…most of these rooms were bedrooms at one time • All will have access to their own bathrooms • Rarely … but they could be a 3rd person in a room • “Roommate over hall” is NOT an option • Notified in early August You will have a place to live next fall !

  6. Applied for housing yet ? • Corps Housing is still available… • But do NOT apply for this in hopes you will get ResLife “Non-Reg” housing • You can sign up for the “wait to be notified list” • Not a “wait list” … notified “IF” we open up housing again • If on the list…you get a head start on the application process Opening Up Housing ? Not before July 15th

  7. Management of Your Expectations • Last Fall, there were ~6000 empty beds in the Bryan / College Station area…more this year • Many off-campus facilities opened at ~80% occupancy • Lots were offering “phenomenal” deals to sign a lease with them • Actually “raiding” from on-campus housing • Be careful…stiff penalties if you break the off-campus lease Off Campus weblink: http://studentlife.tamu.edu/agoss/offcampus

  8. Housing Timelines… • Now until 1st week of July - Permanent Assignments Released • Match “faces” to “spaces” for ~7700+ students • 2nd – 3rd weeks of July: • Cancellations … most are students who forgot they had applied for on-campus housing • Middle of July / early August: • Open up housing ? • “Temporary / Over Assignments” Released • Until August 5th – All fall assignments done…no more changes • August 21st…move in • August 29th … no shows & hall changes • By 2nd week of September: All fall moves are done ? !!!! Patience = A Place to Live !

  9. Helpful Hints • Check Housing on Web (HoW) everyday between now and Aug 5th… if we take your $$…then you are in ! • The longer you can wait … the better your chances are of getting in • This applies to off-campus housing too ! • Last year, ~200 students just did not show up the first week of school

  10. Dos and Don’ts for Gateway • Single Room vs Roommate for Gateway housing • Plenty of room … we can do either • Dos: • Have your student’s UIN available • Apply for parking…even if you don’t know where yet • Don’ts: • …paint your room…this will NOT be your room in the fall • …apply for Interim Housing…you are not eligible • …assume you will be on this side of campus for the fall…or even this style of hall

  11. Reminders If you get in … and sign a contract: • Stiff penalties for LATE cancellations: • 25%of the Fall semester rent after July 15th (regardless of when you signed the contract) • 50% of the Spring semester rent…if enrolled in classes • For those who sign up for the Corps • If you quit the Corps … there is no guarantee you will get on-campus housing • …or it could be temporary housing for the entire fall semester • No Interim Housing for Gateway students • “Not Fully Admitted” until AFTER grades are posted • Early Move in for Fish Camp F & G
