  1. Chapter 7 - Paperwork All organisations have a paperwork requirement. Ours is no exception and you need to know what you must do before you set off. ● Does someone know where you are? ● ACP17 and getting approval from the chain of command ● ACP5 and reporting incidents ● DoE: green forms, blue forms and red forms. ● Qualifications At the end of this section you will have a basic understanding of what formalities need to be observed before setting out. You don’t need to know this off by heart, but you will know to ask the right questions.

  2. Chapter 7 – Does someone know where you are? Always leave a route card and map trace with someone

  3. Chapter 7 – Chain of command This form should be filled out and signed by the adult in charge and by the unit CO. It is then sent with the rest of the paperwork to Wg HQ and will be signed by: WATTO WExO ARC (If necessary)

  4. Chapter 7 – A PERM With the application form should go the details of the activity set out as below: A Aim – what will be accomplished by the activity; P Plan – how will you get who, where, when with what kit; E Eventualities – who will do what if something goes wrong. Where is the nearest A&E or on call doctor. R Risk assessment for the actual activity. Use generic assessments where appropriate to get started, but make sure you make them specific to what you are doing where. M Map showing route or location (memory map is great for this).

  5. Chapter 7 – ACP 5 If something goes wrong you must deal with it. In some circumstances you will need to report it. ACF492 Which needs to be filled out if a cadet goes to hospital RIDDOR Which needs to be filled out if a cadet is injured and requires professional attention beyond first aid. HQAC Who need to notified if press attention is likely DoE Award Who need to be notified if press attention is likely on a formal expedition. This course is not intended to give comprehensive guidance. Uniformed staff, AT qualified staff and ACP 5 should be consulted for guidance.

  6. Chapter 7 – Duke of Edinburgh Expeditions In general you should mark your AT application as a DoE expedition and your Wing DoE Officer will be notified. For some expeditions more is needed. Please consult your DoE officer for guidance on: Green Forms For wild country expeditions (allow 12 weeks); Blue Forms For overseas expeditions (allow 12 months); Overseas expeditions should also seek advice from HQAC 12 months in advance. Red Forms Sometimes needed for Peak District expeditions.

  7. Chapter 7 – AT Qualifications All expedition work must be supervised by a legal adult (anyone >18 years old) who is qualified to take responsibility for the safety of the participants. Details are found in ACP17, but a quick guide follows: Walking – BELA (rural countryside), WGL (e,g, Dartmoor), ML (mountainous) Cycling – ACO in house, Trail Cycle Leader, Mountain Bike Leader Canoeing – BCU Level 1 or higher There are others and your Squadron AT Officer or WATTO will be able to help. Note: Cadets over 18 can supervise AT, but they must be accompanied by an adult staff member. The adult staff does not need to be AT qualified.
