Scott Mutter1944-2008

His life
His life….

  • He was born in Park Ridge IL !!!! YEAH!!!!

  • He never received any formal art training but did receive a BA in History from U of I and a Masters in Chinese studies.

  • Most of Mutter’s work was done in the Chicago area and even a bit was done in Champaign IL.

His style
His Style….

  • Mutter never liked being considered a surrealist, and coined the term "Surrational Images" to describe his work.

  • He did not transition to the cut and paste technique afforded by Photoshop and similar software but recreated every original print in the darkroom as he thought this was the only way that they were truly "originals". “From the few existing originals of each piece he would select the one he considered the most appropriate for reproduction as posters.”

  • Why do you think this picture was included in a “More Perfect World” exhibit?

Time travelers
Time Travelers

  • We come from beyond,

  • and we go from whence we came,

  • courting the hands of time.

  • We are bound by nothing

  • so much as our imagination.
