History of Measurement • Some older cultures used measurements that were convenient or that were tied to the measurement of a kings body part(like a hand or foot) • Examples • An exotic spice may actually be worth its weight in gold • 5 grams of spice = 5 grams of gold • Eventually the units became standardized so that a meter is the same distance in any country
