  4. Council Tax Benefit • Most of us pay a Council Tax • This depends on size and location of house • If on Income support you are entitled to 100% rebate • Low income families will have reduced tax

  5. Medical Aid • Free Hospitals • Free Dental treatment • Free Spectacles • All these are free to people on Income Support or to people on low incomes

  6. Job Centre Plus • JOBCENTRE PLUS:Provides a wide range of services to help people find employment and claim correct benefits.

  7. The New Deal • Introduced to give unemployed people help in getting back into employment or through training to provide them with necessary skills.

  9. Fact-file: • 414,000 people aged 18-24 were helped into work between 1999 and 2003 • 135,900 people aged 25 and over were helped into work between 1999 and 2003

  12. Aids to Find Work 2 • Job clubs also • Show you how to use a telephone • Utilise the newspapers • Do well in interviews • It provides telephones, word processors. Stamps, envelopes and newspapers

  13. Retraining and Education • Skillseekers for 16-18 year olds give a personal training plan • Money is paid to companies to train young people • Private training Organisations (Maytag) give specialist training, Work Experience etc

  14. Scottish Enterprise • Aim of this organisation is to help people and businesses to be successful. • This is done by creating jobs and improving skills and training

  15. Main roles: • Help s new businesses get started • Supports existing businesses • Train people for jobs of the future • Promote Scotland as a good place to live, work and do business

  16. Creating Jobs • LOCATE IN SCOTLAND Tries to attract foreign companies • SCOTTISH ENTERPRISE joins with other organisations like local companies to bring in jobs • PRINCE’S TRUST awards grants to young people who wish to start their own business

  17. Creating Jobs 2 • EUROPEAN UNION helps areas with high unemployment • Provides money to build roads, clean up old sites etc • Develops education and retraining programmes • Helps set up small businesses
