  2. What is Nitazoxanide Tablets ? • Nitazoxanide is used to treat diarrhea in children and adults caused by the protozoa Cryptosporidium or Giardia.

Dosage and administration • Nitazoxanide Tablets for children above 4 years of age • Children aged 4-11 years • a) 1 tablet every 12 hours for 3 consecutive days for Amoebiasis, Giardiasis, Cryptosporidiosis and Helminthes infections') 1 tablet every 12 hours for 7 consecutive days for Fasciolasis. • Patients above 12 years of age • a) 2 ½ tablets every 12 hours for 3 consecutive days for Amoebiasis, Giardiasis, Cryptosporidiosis and Helminthicinfections.b) 2 1/2 tablet every 12 hours for 7 consecutive days for Fasciolasis.

  4. Indications and Usage • Diarrhoea caused by Cryptosporidium parvum and Giardialamblia. • Amebiasis and helminth infections. • Mechanism of action Nitazoxanide, a synthetic antiprotozoal agent. Nitazoxanide is well absorbed from GIT. It interferes with the PyruvateFerredoxinOxidoreductase (PFOR) enzyme dependent electron transfer reaction which is essential to anaerobic glucose energy metabolism. This results in cell swelling, membrane damage resulting in dysfunction of the parasite.

  5. Side effects • Diarrhea; headache; nausea; stomach pain. • Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); bone pain; fainting; fast heartbeat; severe or persistent dizziness; shortness of breath; unusual tiredness.
