Who We Are:The University of Washington Institute for Hazards Mitigation Planning and Research is an interdisciplinary academic Institute housed in the College of Architecture and Urban Planning. The Institute (was/is): • Created in the Fall of 1999. • An outcome of the participation of Dr. Richard McCormick, President of the University of Washington, at the 1997 Seattle Project Impact signing ceremony. • Dedicated to building long term relationships in Washington State and the Northwest through: • Products – Plans and Research • Providing University recourses in support of community risk reduction efforts. provide University recourses concerning Hazards issues. • Training and Educating future practitioners :

Building long term relationships – Plans and Research • Support workshops problem definition activities – CREW, EERI and APA • Hazard Inventory Vulnerability Assessments for Snohomish Co., Everett and Sultan • All Hazards Mitigation Plans for Shoreline, Redmond and Clark County • Visions for Kimball Creek • The Market Effects of Elevating Homes. • Pierce/King County Lifelines Study. • GIS and the uses of 911 after the Nisqually Earthquake. • Alternatives for Whidbey Island Neighborhood • Spatial implications of Earthquake Retrofitting in Seattle
