Conclusions • Removing electrons from a 9 GeV 90+ (helium like) uranium beam by stripping in different materials of various thicknesses and then selecting the resulting He-like or H-like ions is an effective method of generating low intensity beams. • Using strippers thick enough to approach equilibrium achieves the largest attenuations with the smallest yield uncertainties. • The largest attenuation factor available is ~1E-6 by using aluminum or silicon. • With tungsten one can get a reduction factor of ~2.7E-5. • The present 0.001” thick tungsten ATR stripper produces ~1% of charge 91+ and ~6E-5 of charge 90+
